The bodies of both Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee were found in their homes and were severely mutilated. Another violent attack had occured last Saturday in Sligo, where a man was stabbed with a knife on his head but survived. It is understood that gardaí are still looking into whether these three incidents are related, as they all have extreme violence in common.
Gardaí investigation has so far led to suspicions that the two murders and the violent incident may have been hate-motivated and it is still being determined whether the victims met their attacker on a dating app.
In relation to this suspicion, the gardaí have warned the public to take great precaution when using dating apps.
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has expressed his worry and paid his condolences to family members.
Deeply troubled to read about the two suspected murders in Sligo including that of @FineGael activist Aidan Moffitt. Thinking of his family & friends. What happened is unspeakable and hard to fathom. Concerned about the possible motive of the attacker. RIP
