Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD, has today visited Lisdoonvarna Fáilte CLG – a County Clare community organisation that is welcoming people arriving from Ukraine.

Lisdoonvarna Fáilte have been extremely active since early March acting as a coordinating group for people arriving from Ukraine to North Clare.

They have worked closely with Clare Local Development Company and Clare Public Participation Network to provide supports to hotels, and other facilities, hosting Ukrainian nationals.

Lisdoonvarna Fáilte have assisted with school placements and transport, organising coffee mornings and other events to assist with community integration. They have also arranged English speakers from the Ukrainian community to assist with a variety of needs.

The organisation receives financial support through the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Services Programme.

The Minister met with local people and thanked them for the welcome they have provided to Ukrainians fleeing the war:

“It was an honour for me to visit Lisdoonvarna Fáilte and to meet with the volunteers who are providing such valuable supports to many families fleeing this terrible war. This was an opportunity for me as Minister to say thank you to the people of Clare who have opened their homes at this time of crisis. I also had the opportunity to meet Ukrainian nationals who have travelled vast distances in order to escape this bloody war. One thing that was clear from my visits to Lisdoonvarna was that this community has become a home from home. I want to commend Lisdoonvarna Fáilte on their important work both in their normal day to day operations and, more specifically in their valuable work in providing practical assistance to people from Ukraine.”
