Zelensky requests fast-track NATO membership for Ukraine following annexation
Zelensky dismisses further negotiations with Putin following Russia's annexation of four Ukrainian regions this afternoon

At the annexation event, Putin continued to refer to the war in Ukraine as a "special military operation" and warned that the people living in the four annexed regions are becoming permanent Russian citizens.
G7 leaders have condemned the annexation of Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson into Russia as illegal. The Ukrainian President has requested NATO for a membership bid following Putin's actions, stating that any further negotiation with Putin is futile as he lacks "humanity". Depsite NATO's clear policy of supporting Ukraine through the provision of weapons and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, it is yet unclear how NATO will repsond to Zelensky's request. As Zelensky signed the application for NATO he affirmed "we have already proven compatibility with alliance standards".
