The consultancy firm GENESIS Biomed, a national reference in advisory services for early-stage projects in the biomedical sector, will close 2023 with a turnover of €2M, 25% more than in 2022, due to a 100% organic growth, an ambitious expansion plan, and a firm commitment to helping entrepreneurs reach key milestones to bring the health innovations closer to the market. With the opening of its new headquarters in Valencia, inaugurated yesterday in the BioHub VLC, and the incorporation of Antonio Rodríguez Hita, as the new director for the Madrid office, the consultancy firm wants to strengthen its presence throughout Spain.

The consultancy firm GENESIS Biomed -with its central offices at the Barcelona Science Park and offices in Madrid and Valencia, and a reference in advisory services for R&D&i projects in the biomedical sector- will close this financial year with a record turnover of €2M, 25% more than in 2022, thanks to an exclusively organic growth strategy and an ambitious national expansion plan.

In 2023, the consultancy, founded by Josep Lluís Falcó and Natalia de la Figuera, has collaborated in more than 60 early-stage R&D&i projects, from accompaniment in the constitution process of spin-offs and startups, the creation of the business plan, valuation of the product through a development plan or creation of the financing plan. The identification in the latter of the financial needs will enable the strategy for raising private funds to be defined, in which the consultancy will also accompany these companies.

So far this year, GENESIS Biomed has taken part in the closure of the €1M round of Renalyse with the Botín Foundation, and is providing support in raising private funds for another three companies in the sector. And through its vehicle GENESIS Tech Transfer Boost, it has carried out another two transactions, that of the spin-off Retina Read Risk and the startup Spinally Medical, and has a third underway which will be published shortly.

GENESIS Biomed also habitually collaborated with research centres, companies investors and other stakeholders in the biomedical sector, working on strategic plans, analysis of investments, valuations of companies and accompaniment in incubation and acceleration processes, among others.

Since its foundation, in May 2017, the company has done 308 consultancy projects for 260 clients, and has contributed to closing a total of 20 financing rounds, raising more than €68.5M for its clients, with the aim of contributing to the knowledge generated in universities and hospitals materialising in companies that develop innovative solutions to improve people’s health and quality of life.

Inauguration of its new headquarters in the Valencia BioHub

Within the framework of the ambitious national expansion plan, GENESIS Biomed has opened offices in the BioHub VLC, the first privately managed Spanish business centre dedicated to health and life sciences.

In the words of Josep Lluís Falcó, founder and CEO of the consultancy: The opening of these headquarters is decision of GENESIS Biomed to invest in the Valencian Community which is positioning itself as one of the main clusters in Biomedicine, bringing together a significant number of Health Research Institutes and Research Foundations. For our part, we have a very relevant presence in this sector and we are working with projects in the field of technology transfer and advisory services for biomedical projects connected with the university (UV, UPV, UHM), health (IIS La Fe, Incliva, Isabial, Fisabio), entrepreneurial (Corify, Arthex, Sonda, Doppli) and corporate settings (Inndromeda, CIBER-BBN).

To consolidate its presence within this eco-system, GENESIS Biomed has also incorporated Bioval as a partner. This cluster represents and connects business interests and BIO entities in the community.

According to Natalia de la Figuera, founder, managing partner and COO: “Our participation in this cluster will enable us to unite forces to share and expand knowledge to thus generate added value that directly impacts people’s health. We are very excited about this new opportunity that is open to us and we hope to be able to contribute our experience in the development of the Biomedicine sector in this Bioregion”.

The inauguration of these new headquarters was held yesterday within the framework of the Annual GENESIS Biomed Conference in Valencia. The event, which was opened by Jesús Agüero, director general of Bioval, was attended by more than 75 professionals from public entities and companies from the biomedicine community eco-system.

Promote the growth of its Madrid office

Last September, GENESIS Biomed incorporated the lawyer Antonio Rodríguez Hita as the new Director of the company’s offices opened in Madrid in 2019.

Rodríguez Hita has more than 14 years of international experience in technology transfer. He has worked for the University of Calabria (Italy), the Hospital de La Princesa Research Institute, the Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute and spent a year at the Technology Transfer Office of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). During his career in the Innovation Support Unit (UAI) at the Gregorio Marañón Health Research Institute (IiSGM), he led work teams, developed strategic alliances, designed health entrepreneurship programmes, negotiated technology transfer agreements and gave legal advice on industrial property.

His career and knowledge will enable the expansion of the GENESIS Biomed portfolio of services with two new categories: consultancy services related to the design of the intellectual and industrial property protection strategy, and legal advice services in the incorporation of companies and technology licence agreements.

This new recruit will enable GENESIS Biomed to consolidate its expansion in the Community of Madrid, a community with a large number of companies, billing and investment in R&D and with great potential.
