Formally launched in October 2021, the three-year partnership aims to make the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ a beacon for physical and mental health promotion, and a model for ensuring future mega sport events are healthy and safe.

Mr. Ali Abdulla Al Khater, Chair of the Supreme Healthcare Communications Committee, said: “We are proud to be collaborating with WHO, FIFA and SC on this historic partnership. Together, we are committed to ensuring a safe FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ for all those attending and to using the tournament as a platform to promote healthy lifestyles to a local and global audience. The new website provides further details about the objectives of the partnership and highlights a number of activities that MoPH and partners have already delivered.”
The partnership is unpinned by the key pillars of health promotion, health security and health communications, with health promotion activities focused on four core themes: physical activity, nutrition, mental health and tobacco.
Dr. Salih Al Marri, Assistant Minister for Health Affairs at MoPH, said: “An enormous amount of work has already been undertaken since the partnership signing. We have jointly organized multiple training workshops for healthcare teams in Qatar as part of the health security pillar, while our health promotion and communication efforts have seen numerous awareness activities delivered for National Sport Day, World No Tobacco Day, and World Blood Donor Day, to name just a few. Our activities will increase exponentially the lead up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ as work towards our goal of positively impacting the health and wellbeing of people across the world.”
